Ministries and Events :: Health and Caring Ministry

Augustana has a Parish Nurse program in partnership with Lyngblomsten that blends the practice of faith with the practice of nursing, addressing the needs of the whole person across their lifespan. The Parish Nurse invites you to call and discuss health and wellness topics or request assistance in locating resources. To make an appointment, please call the church office at 651.457.3373 and ask to speak with Mary Nordtvedt.

Hospitalization

If you are experiencing health or life challenges or know someone who is, please call the church office at 651 457-3373. We would like to support you with prayer and with presence. Hospitals do not notify churches when their members are admitted.

Augustana offers the following health ministry programs.

Care Team Ministry

This is a ministry that "does for a friend what a friend would do." Care Team Ministry responds, free of charge, to the non-medical "quality of life" needs of individuals and families of all ages not routinely fulfilled by existing social services programs. It provides an opportunity for people to live their faith by serving others.

Blood Pressure Screenings
Blood Pressure screenings are conducted on the third Sunday of the month from 9:15 to 11:00 am in the church office.

Baby Blanket Ministry
This ministry supports new parents. Caring volunteers send a congratulatory card that is followed by a home visit and delivery of a handmade baby blanket.

The Gathering
In partnership with Lyngblomsten, we provide a safe and enjoyable program for those who are experiencing early stage memory loss while giving respite to their caregivers. Caring for a loved one can be very draining. This program will provide a few hours that the caregiver can do things the he/she may enjoy while we provide a safe and caring place for the person with memory loss.

Augustana hosts The Gathering on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Salem Lutheran hosts the program on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Please call Mary Nordtvedt, Parish Nurse at 651 457-3373 to learn more about this program.

Care Giver Memory Loss Support Groups

First Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am

Second Monday of the month at 6:30 pm

YogaDevotion
These classes are taught by experienced Yogadevotion instructors. Classes are Level 1 with individual guidance to those that may need more or less strenuous movements. The classes focus on breath work, lengthening and strengthening muscles all in a Christian atmosphere.

Sessions are 10 weeks. For more information, visit www.yogadevotion.com or contact the church office. Cost is $60 per session. Sessions run continuously throughout the year.

Breathe, Stretch & Pray Exercise

This unique exercise opportunity utizilzes yoga stretching poses from a chair, mat or standing.

Befrienders Ministry
The Quiet Ministry

• Of being a friend

Befrienders are lay people who extend the love of Christ through a ministry of listening and support.

Caring Casseroles Ministry
This ministry prepares and delivers food to parishioner during challenging times.

Grief Support Ministry
This ministry supports members who have had a death in their immediate family. There is also a Holiday Memorial Service held the second Saturday in December.

Augustana is a member of the Southeast Suburban Grief Coalition. A series of grief classes are held both in the Spring and Fall.
