Pause to Pray

Daily prayer is an intentional and meaningful way to strengthen and nurture your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Augustana prayer ministry invites you to pause to Pray with our faith community twice each day, at 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.

Labyrinth & Healing Garden
Augustana's Labyrinth is located in the wooded area of the south lawn. This beautiful meditation tool helps one to center and attain a calm and relaxed state of mind. Some who walk the Labyrinth find joy, others discover comfort from grief or relief from stress, while others use it as a prayer tool to communicate with God.

Prayer Shawls
The prayer shawl ministry combines the love of knitting and crocheting with a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort. As the shawls are made, the maker knits/crochets prayers into each shawl. Over 100 shawls have been delivered over the past two years. Contemplative/Centering Prayer
Many of us think of prayer as using thoughts or words to express our needs and feelings. In contemplative prayer, it is opening our mind and heart our whole being to God and his presence.

Centering Prayer is a quiet, restful prayer time spent in God's presence.You are welcome to join a prayer group that is currently meeting two Mondays at Augustana and two Mondays at Salem Lutheran. 

The prayer time begins with shared scripture reading, followed by 20 minutes of quiet Centering Prayer. 

The group currently meets at 6:30 pm in the Fireside Room at Salem Lutheran Church on the first and third Mondays of the month.

They also meet at 9:00 am in the Prayer Chapel at Augustana on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

Centering Prayer does not replace prayers of words and thoughts. Rather, it can be a wonderful, peaceful addition to prayer time.

Prayer Weavers
The Weavers were established to pray for members and friends of Augustana, the pastors, staff, congregational ministries, and special concerns of our community and world. They pray in a climate of confidentiality with the support and advice of Augustana's pastors.

We have a Prayer Vigil during Holy Week.

Prayer Chapel

This is a quiet, reverent place where people can spend a few minutes in prayer on Sunday mornings, praying for the worship services and other activities that take place at Augustana. It is also a place where individuals and small groups may go for private prayer and meditation at any time.
