A Deserted Place

Last week Pastor Torgerson introduced our 10 week preaching series on Spiritual Practices and she both challenged us and encouraged us to keep on training in Godliness and to practice our faith.

This is what she said about spiritual practices; “there are things that faithful Christians do to continue practicing their faith, to grow, to be challenged, to voice their doubts and fears, to be held accountable – this is what it means to be Christian.  If you’re not doing it, it’s not part of who you are. If you are not training in godliness, it’s not you.”[1]

The Business of the Church

Dear friends in Christ, grace and peace. Amen

One of the things that needs to happen in a sermon is a call to action.

A sermon should move the listener to respond to God’s call in her life.

A sermon should challenge the listener so he considers his relationship with God. A sermon should invite the listener to be part of God’s work in the world.

Dear friends in Christ, grace and peace. Amen

Easter isn’t easy. We may think it is and we do our best to make it that way with the flowers, Easter baskets, the celebrations and family gatherings but the truth of the matter is that it is hard.

Tough Choices

I received my daily text message devotional yesterday and this is what it said; “when we choose deliberately to obey God, then He will tax the remotest star and the last grain of sand to assist us with His almighty power.”[1] Oswald Chambers said this.

Looking Ahead

Dear friends in Christ, grace and peace. Amen

It is difficult to look ahead when you are walking in darkness or living in the darkness.

This was certainly the case for the people of Israel. More specifically the people of the southern Kingdom of Judah. In our biblical time line there are now two Kingdoms; one in the north called Israel and one in the south called Judah. Isaiah was a prophet to the southern kingdom of Judah.
